Strictly Sail Boat Show, April 12-15, 2012, Alameda

What a fun time we had over this weekend.  Early on Thursday morning, April 12, fighting a bit of rain at first, we motorsailed over from Sausalito to Alameda, about a 13 nm trip.  We had made reservations at Marina Village in Alameda, directly across from Jack London Square where the show was, for $20/night.  The slip was great.  It was the first one after the gate, so the restrooms were very close, and everyone in the Marina came by all day, complimenting us on our beautiful boat.  It was such an “ego boost” for both Cool Change and us!

The boat show was fantastic – all of the icons of the sailing world seemed to be there, offering free one-hour seminars on everything from sail trim to galley cooking.  We joined up with friends Friday and Saturday nights, and dinghying around the estuary was fun.  Thank goodness we had Cool Change up for sale, or else we would have spent a fortune on her.  But if it turns out we don’t sell Cool Change after all, we know exactly where to go to buy all the things we want for her to cruise – a self-steering mechanism, fridge unit, new sails, watermaker, etc.

15.4 nm, max speed 6.6 kts, returning from Alameda to our home port after the boat show

Of course, we made the most of the sail back on Sunday as well, adding a few more miles onto our trip and sailing all the way.
