We are considering a PS 31 , downsizing from a Valiant 40. Seems like this is smaller with similar seaworthiness characteristics of the Valiant.
I’ve not had a chance to view one yet and I’m wondering what you do about the lack of a hanging locker?
Hi Bruce. There are 2 hanging lockers but the one aft of the head is used for our Spectra 200 watermaker and the other for fowl weather gear. Our clothes we put in bags in the foot space forward of the settees. It will be an adjustment to downsize but we have found the ease of sailing, dock space and maintenance costs to be well worth it. And yes, a Pacific Seacraft 31 is very reliable at sea. We adore her and trust her with our lives
Have a PCS 31, 1990 hull 55, and it came with the rings on mast, deck, shroud, and staysail. I’ve not put the shroud up and sail as am not sure how to rig it to raise and lower (blocks etc). There is a place to run the lines back to the cockpit but there are no tracks for that sail. Would love to know how yours is setup! Just found your page and so glad. Hello David, Cool Change has found a new loving home but I would encourage you to keep up your search for a PS 31 or 37. Our 31 kept us safe and comfortable on ocean passages and coastal cruises for many years and she was solid a perfect size for the two of us. Though they can be difficult to find, they hold up very well and are generally free of issues that plague other boats of the era such as blisters, chain plate issues and hull fatigue. The 29hp Yanmar that is standard to this boat is easily accessible for maintenance and powerful enough to meet the needs of an aux motor.
